I’m really bad at updating with weddings and I will get better at it, promise. I did want to share this really fun wedding with my friends Rebecca and Brandon. I’ve known Rebecca for a long long time and her sister even longer (I shot their wedding too!). Anyway, Rebecca asked me if I would be interested in shooting their wedding at one of my favorite venues ever, County Line Orchard in Hobart, IN. I immediately jumped at the chance. Ironically, I used to live 1 mile down the road back in the day, and it was my go-to for apple picking. So excited they asked me to share in their big day, and now I share with you! Hope you enjoy!
Brrrr....what a cold November wedding! But what a great couple to warm up the day! In what was probably the coldest wedding of the season, we still managed to get some great shots outside, even with a hint of snow. They were troopers, and in the end, it was worth freezing my fingers off. Pazzo's wasn't too bad either, what an awesome venue! Enjoy!
What an amazing wedding with an amazing couple. Rishi and Lauren decided to have what turns out to be one of the last weddings ever at Monasteros on the northside of Chicago. This classic location has been on of the most popular family-run Italian restaurants in the city, and they decided to close their doors after 60+ years in business. What a shame, as this place is stunning! As was the couple. What a fitting way to send this place off but with an amazing Indian fusion wedding. Enjoy!
Phew! What an epic wedding! Over 100 gigs of data our cinema and photo teams shot! April and Jeff are finally married and off to South Africa for a honeymoon. (I'm not jealous one bit...nope, not a bit...)
I was honored to be selected by April and Jeff to shoot this wedding. April is a wedding planner herself at Premier WED so it was exciting to be working with so many talented professionals.
The wedding took place at First United Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple, which is stunning with beautiful stained glass. From there, we headed around the city for portraits. First over to the museum campus to visit the Adler Planetarium and then a visit to Buckingham Fountain to grab a few skyline shots. After that we headed back to the Palmer House for a stunning, elegantly designed wedding in the Empire Room.
Dawn from Premier W.E.D did an outstanding job designing and coordinating this one. Look for our wedding film to follow in a bit!

Caroline and Dennis had an awesome wedding at the South Branch Tavern - a sweet little spot tucked away by the river on Wacker Drive in the loop. We started off at the Palmer House for some getting-ready stuff, along with the first glance, before heading over to the Art Institute museum for some of the bridal party shots. After that, we headed to the Board of Trade (Caroline was a former trader, so she legit had a reason to be there!). These two were among the sweetest and most fun couples I've ever shot and I had such a blast shooting their wedding. Anyway, here's a sample!
One of my favorite suburban venues, we went back to Independence Grove for Clarabelle and Derek's wedding. We got perfect weather, a perfect ceremony, party and great photos. Let's hop right to it. Feel free to leave a comment if you enjoy them!
Here's a video we recently finished for Ryan and Dianna's wedding at the Wyndham Grand hotel in downtown Chicago. Hope you enjoy!
If you haven't been to Architectural Artifacts in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago, do yourself a favor and get over there. It's just loaded with amazing antiques and unique finds. This isn't a typical antique store though, the stuff they have in there is so unique, I've never quite seen anything like it. Oh, and they also host beautiful weddings. Which is why we are all here. Here's a quick sample from Mary and Jack's super fun wedding!
What a stunning wedding this one was! We kept it all under the same roof for bridal prep, ceremony and reception, so we had a ton of time to capture great images in a stunning environment with an even more amazing couple! Ryan and Dianna were so chill and easy to work with, and my entire team had a great time shooting this one. There's also going to be a video coming up alittle later, but for now, I hope you enjoy some images from their day!
Had a great time shooting Stephen and Mary's stunningly beautiful wedding at the Murphy in Downtown Chicago a few weeks back. Here's a brief sample of the images!
Here's a small sample from our recent engagement session with April and Jeff at the Drake Hotel. (Special thanks to Shaun Rajah for his graciousness hosting us there). I had wanted to try a themed engagement shoot for a while, and thought April and Jeff would be perfect for it. (April, btw, is a wedding planner at Premier Wed in case you need a planner!). Anyway, our idea was to try a Mad Men themed shoot, then head into the city for some more traditional stuff. I thought they turned out nice. Take a look!
Here's just a small sample of the images from a recent wedding at Mrs. Murphy's in Lakeview. Since I'm half Irish, this one was particularly fun!
Here's a sample from our recent wedding at Germania Place in Chicago. Hope you enjoy!
December in Chicago can be a tricky proposition. Engagement sessions in December in Chicago can even trickier. But, as luck would have it, we got some unusually warm weather and it was perfectly sunny most of the day. We started out at the lakefront to get some skyline shots. (thanks to Jack for his quick thinking on some rock/concrete engineering to keep my gear from completely breaking), and then afterwards headed over to Restoration Hardware's massive new store at the 101-year-old Three Arts Club of Chicago building in the Gold Coast. While the lighting was iffy, and we felt like we probably had to be a bit sneaky to get some shots, we came away with a few that turned out okay. What a cool store it is though, and they look like they could host a pretty stunning wedding if they wanted to!
Anyway, here's the quick set, hope you enjoy!
Mary and Stephen's downtown Chicago engagement session!
I've just gotten word that I've been selected as a winner of the Best of Knot for 2016! Thank you to all of my clients for this honor! I'm truly blessed to have the most amazing couples to work with.
I'll follow it up with a proper posting, but was so excited I couldn't wait to blog it!
It is with enormous pleasure that I congratulate you/Zulufoto for winning The Knot’s Best of Weddings Award for 2016 – in the city of Chicago! This year only the top 2% of vendors across the country earned this honor and you absolutely deserves it. The Knot’s Best of Weddings award is a top honor in the wedding industry and couples recognize the elite status of the vendors who win! This is absolutely a go-to list when shopping for their weddings.
Congratulations again and I’m looking forward to you showing couples you are the best-of-the-best!

Dianna and Ryan are getting married next year at the Wyndham Grand Chicago and I can't wait. They're my type of people...at our consultation, which lasted all of 5 mins, I tried showing them work and asking them what they were looking for and they said "we're not really sure, and we don't have much time. We have to get to another appointment". Most people would think that's a bad sign, but I knew we'd be working together. Sure enough, a few weeks later, here we are shooting an engagement session!
We spent a day walking around Lincoln Park and Lakeview, mostly looking for good light before ending up on the lakefront for some twilight shots. They picked up fast on the posing basics we worked on, which isn't surprising considering they're both doctors.
Here's a sneak peek of the session. Hope you enjoy! Look for more of these two next summer.
Alex and Annamarie got married, and they knew how to do it in style. At chic Meson Sabika (http://mesonsabika.com/) in Naperville, IL, the wedding was stunning and everyone had a blast. The location is a classic mansion and Tapas restaurant all in one, and they have the most amazing fountain in the courtyard.
Being a Scotsman myself, I just loved the Scottish kilts on the groomsmen. And for Anna, who says she wasn't photogenic...look how amazing she looked! All in all, a great day and an even better couple!
PS...look for a trash-the-dress session coming soon to a blog near you. If you think this one's great, you haven't seen anything yet!
New website....check. New work....check. New gear...check. New blog....wait, what? Wow, we don't have a blog yet? Well, it's time to remedy that!
This year has been very eventful for us at Zulufoto. We're very excited to announce the launching of full service videography this season (or Cinema, as we like to call it). It was a huge undertaking and many hours of sweat and tears went into creating a portfolio that we could be proud of.
The genesis of this was simple. We do alot of cinema work with my commercial business (check out www.bryancreely.com if you're interested in learning more about that), and we shoot alot of weddings as a photographer, but never cinema weddings. It seemed like a natural progression to venture into the world of wedding cinema. So after a ton of research, shooting a bunch of events, attending full training courses and talking with industry professionals, we jumped right in build up this segment of the wedding business.
So take a moment to view our work (see that tab for wedding cinema up there on the top?...click that), and we have lots more coming! Leave a comment and let us know what you think.
